Darwin racismIf ones think of the human devil, and the vast majority of people would first think of Hitler. He launched World War II, 40 millions persons died just in the European countries. Nazi cremated 6 millions people in the concentration camps, the majority of the 6 millions were Jews, and the rest of them were Gypsies, Russians and other nationalities. They all were considered as “inferior races” by Hitler. Why did Hitler do it? Historians have been exploring the topic from different perspectives.

The rising of Hitler is considered by variety of reasons. First, Germany was defeated in the First World War, the victors France and Britain forced Germany to sign the Treaty of Versailles. This treaty was very unfair and too harsh to Germany, so Germany had a strong desire for vengeance.

Second, 1929-1932 Great Depression made people in many countries experienced an unprecedented economic sufferings; the German economy was in great difficulties. A large number of the urban business went bankrupt, with worsening impoverishment of farmers. Faced with these difficulties, the Germans looked for ways by which they could vent out their angers. Hitler’s strong sense of national pride endows with them an outlet to emit their anguish and resentment.

Hitler’s father was a civilian worker in German Custom; young Hitler joined the Catholic with his father. He had a very unhappy childhood, and had been subjected to abuse by his schoolmates, this “Childhood Shadows” led to Hitler with strong craving of retaliation. He did very poor grades in high school, and did not graduate. Throughout his youth, Hitler dreamed of becoming an artist,  and applied for the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts twice, and was rejected. After his parents died, his life was in huge distress, he had to wander around the streets in Vienna to beg for food; he also tried to sell paintings for a living. Sometimes was hired to carry luggage and clean snow.

Back in high school Hitler came in contact with the fanatical ideology of nationalism. He went to Vienna, where he read a lot book of racial superiority, he became obsessed with them. He vowed to fight “for the German revival.” In his autobiography “Mein Kampf”, he revealed his conviction of the superiority of the German nation, the hatred of the Jewish.

Was Hitler a born demon with thought of Aryan’s superiority who just dug up some excuse to kill people from other races? Or he was a common person, but mistakenly believed some ideas which made him kill million innocent people? As said above, Hitler, with the original plan to be a painter, read a lot of books to favor idea of racial superiority. He held German superior, whereas other ethnic groups inferior. What are these books? Let us look at how history is recorded:

“Although he was born in a Catholic family, but he was deeply devoted to the Darwinism and the Pan-German doctrine. He created his own belief that world was created, not in the plan of God in general, but according to Darwinism, God created different races, each race struggle for survival each other, and some of them should be eliminated.

“In Hitler’s thought, the central part is racism. Hitler divided races into high and low level according the Darwin’s theory, and the noble nation has right to eliminate the inferior. He said that Jews is a thing without value of life, they must be to get rid of.”

“National Socialism is nothing but applied biology,” said the deputy Party leader of the Nazis, Rudolf Hess.

Hitler’s creation of a kind of “folk” religion, that is, a religion of the racially defined Volk. Worship was directed to the Germanic race as the only one capable of eliminating the weak and bringing the übermensch – “superman”– into existence in accordance with the cruelties of Nature. Hitler’s words all too clearly portend the atrocities to come when the Nazis gained powe.

ConcentrationCamp

Racism as an ideology in the 19th century, albeit with traces of tribal hatred, but it is the development of 19th century European scientific theory (Darwinism) and advances in manufacturing technology which led to the Europeans with desire of  dominance of the world. “

Lenin took advantage of the First World War, when major Russian troops fought in the West, and there were not enough troops in the country. He launched the “October Revolution” and succeeded to take over the power. Ones can not say that Lenin took advantage of Marxism to engage in the “October Revolution”, as Lenin was a Marxist believer. Similarly Hitler took advantage of the Great Depression, when the German people suffered from severe hardship to seize power, but ones can not say that Hitler took advantage of the Darwin’s theory to engage in brutal killings in the concentration camps, as Hitler was a believer of the Darwin’s theory. The conclusion is obvious: the Darwin’s theory misled young Hitler, who originally planned to be a painter artist, but became the monster Hitler.

Without Darwin, Hitler would be an artist at the third level, not the Fuhr of the Third Reich.

  30. I don’t know if Darwin had a major influence on Hitler or Stalin and Lenin but i can tell that due to their rough environment and frustrations they struggled to find a way to revenge. I don’t know who support them to get these positions and why.

  31. Indeed, Darwin had a big influence on most of the great leaders but i don’t think that Darwin itself could have been the only reason why they become what they are. Abuse of society can make one to grow up a very persecuted and with a thirst for revenge.
Hitler is just another name in the book of history. Lenin, Stalin, Mao Ze Dong, Fidel they are tough leaders who started as some ordinary work men.
